I was born in Nigeria, of English and Irish ancestry. I know what it feels like to be in boarding school, to represent my university in rugby and athletics, to be the only botanist in an expedition to NE Greenland, to be hijacked at gunpoint by Ugandan rebels, to be a husband of a marvellous wife and a father to two sons both of whom I'm very proud and a father in law to their fantastic wives - and a grandfather to the most amazing grandchildren in the world! Oh, and I've been a vicar for over 30 years...
