A new Primary School has been named after us! This school will open at the beginning of 2008, in an isolated rural area in Uganda. Tim and Frances visited a nursery school which a local women's group opened at the instigation of some Ugandan friends of ours; the oldest pupils now need primary education, so they have decided to start a new pirmary school! We received this news via an email from our friends, William and Janet Ojulong:
'Pupils of Prince of Peace Nursery school will graduate to go to Primary one on 28th Dec 2007. Next year, they will join the newly opened primary school called The Feldon Group Primary School in Okapel Kobwin- Ngora. The women group ( orwenyeny women development group) have considered giving the primary school this name in memory of your maiden visit to Okapel village, Kobwin, Ngora. The women group hereby sends their warm greetings to all Christians from the Feldon Group and to all your family.'
Nairobi school books
Many people donated money towards books for the school in the Kibera slum, Nairobi, Kenya that Tim and Frances visited last August. Their friends, Colin and Fey, are visiting now. Despite the post election troubles the buildings survived and the school is back working, although many pupils have not returned this year. Some children are quite traumatised and there was an air of sadness around the school. Colin and Fey say it was
wonderful to be able to purchase
the curriculum books we gave the money for, and to present them to the
school. "We wish you could have shared the teachers' and pupils' joy
and excitement as they unpacked the books and realised they had enough
for all to get help towards their studies. They send each one of you a
huge 'ASANTE SANA' (Thank you very much)."
